Its not at all fully set up yet, but here's a peek at where most my messy crafts are done. I plan to finish this room once i close off the doors and make it off limits to the kids. A few little trinkets i made to decorate my house with. In some ways its more fun to make than jewelry because you have more freedom in the sense that you don't need to wonder if its wearable, or useable. You can make them as fragile as you wish because its purpose is to sit there looking pretty.

Originally i had it put in a small thin silver vase. But the marbles were too heavy and it kept toppling over. So...i resulted in using the blue vase, which overloads on the entire blueness of it...but its okay! I still had fun with it.

Before moving into our new house dad and i went on a shopping spree for new furniture and goodies for our new home. We stumbled upon this old mangled lamp that filled my heart with much joy and a sense of challenge. I wanted to remake it.
I only finally started on it coming in to the new year, and I'm actually rather happy to name this lamp my very first piece in the year 2010. Started with a bang, i like it!!
Although, maybe technically i didn't really make it cause i took the main frame from an already made piece. But, it still took a lot of work, and a lot of trial and error.
Here are the before and after photos. Enjoy!!
Its not completely done as it still needs some nip and tucks, and the kids made it fall one too many times, so reshaping might be in order. But, for now...this is she.
(I'm also posting a photo of our living room so you can see how big the lamp is.)

But, as soon as the weather clears up I will get to it!!! I'm pretty excited about the new stuff I've worked on. I remember posting here before that i had hopes to aim higher and build bigger....so thats what I've been trying to do. Began decorating mirrors, tin cans, glass bowls etc...

Recently promised a friend I'd make her a watch for her birthday. It was fun experimenting and finding new ways to make them. I got a little carried away in this first picture, kept adding and decorating and wiring but she seemed to like this big bunch of blah that came out, so im super happy about that!!!

Got inspired by a book i saw a polymer clay artist make. I had the exact same glass marbles so i had some fun with them. This is the bracelet i posted earlier about it being too big. sniff.

Another FAIL. I made a cute bracelet that i would proudly wear on my wrist any day, and its not fit for my size. I made it too big and i want to sob!!
contemplate...
to make some bigger wristed person happy with a surprise gift.
Or to take it apart and resize it to fit myself.

Why is it that the making one self happy is always the more complicated road?

My heart just went (crack) right down the middle.
I made a beautiful watch that was both delicate and hardcore, but it would not hold itself together. Kept cracking all over the place and needed restitching and glue and it just got frustrating. The concept was wonderful but now I'm needed to replan the entire thing. Unless i find someone who likes to own wristwatches for the sole purpose of setting it on their desk to look pretty.
Sadly, polymer clay is too brittle for certain designs. It snaps.

But, this is exciting. Because little by little i am coming to realize what i am capable of making, and I'm glad my capabilities look pretty to my eye. TYJ.

I hate hate hate brass wire!!! I'll work with it if i absolutely need to, but if a change is able i will switch to copper wire any day!
I've HAD IT with brass and its stubborn ways, the bi*ch even cut my fingers countless times!

In conclusion, i hate brass wire, and if you ever see a piece of work with it just know that sooo much EXTRA work and patience went into it!!

I made one, and loved it so much i couldn't stop. I went shopping earlier that day and bought glass beads at Malaika. they came in little tin cans with the center piece as the top. I cut a picture and stuffed it in, then wired the beads in drilled holes.
But, now i have no more tin can tops so i need to go shopping for more beads!!!

Wire makes everything beautiful.
I find myself using it to decorate all the little polymer clay pieces that I've tossed to the side. Recently my 3yr old son broke my trusty lamp which i used to bake all my clay. so until i buy myself a new one I'm having to work with the little scraps and pieces i have. And its been fun.
You never really realise how creative you can get when you're limited.
hopefully I'll have more to post soon!!

I haven't had much time, or inspiration to work on more items. These are all I've done the past few weeks. I tried some pretty hardcore hemp string on two new necklaces. Gonna take a real brave man with thick skin to deal with the irritation. But, i think it looks nice, and being such savage stuff to work with is what made it so much fun to make.

This first picture is of a watch i made for my sister. took me all together about 3 hours to make. And i dont even think she like it so much, lol.

#1: Clay pendant, with silver Rub n' Buff coloring. Aluminum designed wire. Elastic cord.
#2: Originally it had a little stem and it was a mushroom, but my son broke off the stem and now it just looks like a brain, so thats what we'll call it. Polymer clay pendant, with brown leather strap.
#3: Beads made with sparkled gold and transparent clay, a closer look at the swirlies show how awesome they really are. Sorry the photo isn't so close up. The string is something i got from a piece of clothing, its golden silk strands..i think. Brass wire looped around to design, and then beads were wrapped onto it.
#4: This one i made with my 3 yr old son Daichi. He mushed the colors of the pendant together, made it into a circle then pressed little dents into it with his fingers. I made the top loop part and buffed it with silver Rub n' Buff.
#5: This one somehow turned into a creppy looking design. This was my shot at making something boyish. Polymer clay pendant, Hard leather waxed strap.
#6: This one i call candy, because it looks yummy and shiney. Super simple. take all the colors you want to compile, roll them into little cigarette sized sticks, stack them together and then roll them. As you roll the shape will become like a longer stick, when it does, fold it over in half and repeat the rolling. do that several times and the colors will mix together but in nicely organized thin lines. (This way of mixing colors makes it unlike marble. but like christmas candy canes. It helpes the individual colors stay the way they are without mixing in and changing color. ) roll the clay into a pencil shaped stick and then curl it from one end into a circle. leave two inches at the end to hoop into where the strap can go through. super simple, super fun! If you want your stick to twirl and not only be strait lines of colors, just take one end and twist it. i think i did a little of that to this pendant.
#7: I tried to make a pendant that looked like carved bone. I dont think i got the colors just right but my friend liked it a lot so that was good!!! Drew the tree and design into the clay with a needle. baked it. then dabbed paint into the engraves. after it dried i sandpapered the paint off and what was left was the paint inside the design. buffed it shiney. the string piece is three different kinds of leather. semi braided.
#8: I made a marble with light blue, black and transparent clay. The transparent works really well and it adds a semi precious stone look to it. if you look closely the white parts are a tad seethru. wrapped brass wire around it, and put black shoelace string through it.
#9: black and transparent clay. made a petal design and laid each petal down in the shape of a flower. stamped swirlies. then painted gold over it. Brass wire twirled beads. And elastic string.

I've never made little fellows like this before. I saw Elaina make some and they added a thrill to her day so i thought I'd give it a shot. Generally i like adorable things with a hint of cruelty...stuff that's not just peachy, but a little bit dorky, ugly and just imperfect...
Well this little fellow represents anyone Emo who has given their heart away and put themselves in a position where they just can't get it back. As you may notice there is a stitched patch over his chest, and his heart is on the platter outside his little jail. And the cherry on top of it all is his teenie little butt crack. i love it!! Poor naked man.

Another Book.

Took me a while to work on this book. It's the biggest one I've ever made yet. Twice the size of my first two.
Outside decoration. First i made a frame with thick brass wire. I then wrapped thinner brass wire around it. i framed that frame with polymerclay, stamped designs and then colored it. Threw rocks inside and superglued it to the book. (the strange swiggle on the very right is a hook on for an elastic that keeps the book together.
The paper was crinkled, burnt and glued. Drilled holes into the book to sew the chain of stones and beads.

BOOKS!!!!! I've always wanted to learn how to make books. and finally after El taught me the chain stitch its all happening. here we go...

So all together, so far, I've made three. one is a miniature book which probably would not be of any use to anyone, but its rather cute, and the smaller it is the simpler and faster it is to make. So, that's a plus.
#1: (I'm not going to go into the detail of the whole book. mainly how i decorated the cover.) Cardboard paper. different patches of paper, and material glued and pasted. The black paper was crinkled up and after spread back out i had white and purple pastel softly brushed over it. then i scribbled random words in gold pen over that. Flower design superglued on. And thats basically it. Minus the folding of paper and stitching.

Cardboard pieces with acrylic black paint sponged over the originally red colored cardboard. (If you dip your sponge in the paint and dab it lightly without dragging your sponge over the board it gives it a rougher sandy look. I then sandpapered very little of the board just to add more grunge to it. a polyerclay made piece glued to the middle. a wooden bead on the side making a hook on for the elastic that keeps the book closed together.

And thats it. i recommend googling Single-Needle-Chain-Stitch cause making books is SOOOO much fun. And it somehow seems like a more worthwhile investment of your time than jewelry for me, cause...well...its a book.
Make it a prophecy book and you've got something priceless right there!!!

My First Book.

Having just recently learned to chain stitch, i quickly made my very first book. blank pages will be filled with my poetry from the past few years. the clock represents broken time.

Here we go: Cardboard cover with red painting sponged over with Acrylic black paint. some edges were sandpapered very softly. I then took a picture that i painted a few months ago tore it up to small pieces and glued it on. The white piece of paper was crinkled and spread back out, i then scribbled words in cursive with a gold pen. frame made of polymer clay, and shrink plastic not yet shrunken.
puzzle piece with little black paint over it, the wooden beads, the watch, the dried leaf, and the frame were all superglued on at the very end.

Finding Beauty in the Collage of Life.

I was inspired to make this after i read "Finding Beauty in the Collage of Life. " Elaina gave me pieces of broken sea glass for this project. Its a personal favorite, and not up for sale. This is probably my most favorite quote ever and it inspires me every time i look at it. It inspires me that the Lord is taking all the broken things in my life and is going to make something beautiful of it. And i know that he'll show me one day and i will only cry because im going to wish i gave him more of myself to make his collage more beautiful.

New Decades.

Since the original got sold to a very generous someone, i worked extra hard to make another one. The color of the glass stone is different. i like the original better but good things don't always come around again. PTL.
#1: Glass flat marble wrapped in Aluminum wire. Aluminum wired beads, and glass beads bought from the 100yen store.

I bought myself some Aluminum wire with a gorgeous color to it, and wanted to make the same design in color. I like how it turned out. the strap is short and rather "choker" like, not really my style, but it would probably look better on someone else.
#2: Glass flat marble wrapped in Aluminum wire. Glass, wood, plastic and polymer clay beads.

This one i made for someone who will find the above two a little overdone. I made this one simple.

Bracelets can be fun and a lot easier than making necklaces. This was the second bracelet i ever made (the first being the one i turned into my watch.) This was fun adding a bunch of swirlies and dots. The finish product rather creeped me out, but Elaina found it adorable so i gave it to her.
#1: Polymer clay. Transparent elastic.

This is probably the only thing i ever made that successfully turned out manly.
#2: Silver Pendant (not made by me). Leather strap. Wooden and Polymer Clay beads. Black parts of the strap was colored in by permanent marker.

#3: Polymer clay pendant. Plastic string. clay, glass and wooden beads.

This is a matching series as another one i haven't posted yet. This one says "Choose Love" the second one says "Choose Patience". Its supposed to be related to parenting. Those are two main things i always need to remind myself whenever I'm about to lose it, or be sharp with my kids.
#4: Shrink plastic framed with polymer clay. Brass Wire decoration. Clay, wood, and glass beads.

Remember this little fellow. Well, i took him hoooome with me and cared for him. (aka, plucked him from his lifesource and put him in a little glass cup out in the sun to dry, and then chopped of all his rotten parts.)
After all that caring was done, i made a little cage where he can spend the rest of his days. Not as happy as he was when he was alive and healthily planted near his other mushroom friends. but, at least this way he's pretty and decorated. I'm confident he had a life worth living and an even better death. He is now strapped onto the bag of the lovely Elaina.
here we go: Cage frame made of thick copper wire. Then thinner copper wire was wrapped around. Leather strap. Glass and tigereye beads.

While some of these i no longer have, and the others are ones i want to keep. i thought I'd post them here anyway. Of course, if there is one you like, i can try to make up something similar to it, unless its the purple maze one cause i already tried making another one of those and it turned out rather unfriendly!! i guess, most of the time second shots are never as good as the original.

#1: Aluminum wire wrapped around in savage fashion. Elastic wire. polymer clay pendant and beads.
This one is just purely retarded and while its interesting to look at, wearing it is silly and unpractical cause the aluminum wire is not steady and bends around flexibly. But, it was fun to create it in my mind, and i had fun making it.

This is a new little concept i started making several of, they're a personal favorite. I enjoy most anything that signifies the blessings that children are. And thought I'd make something of it myself. This can be made for any parent with the number on the main piece and dangled pieces being changed according to however many children you have. This first one is a necklace i made for Elaina, the second picture is a CellPhone strap i made for myself.

I wanted to state here, as many of my necklaces are made with elastic cord. this may not work well for some of you but i think for most mommy's you'll find it very babyfriendly. My 1 yr old son hasn't yet fully come to understand his strength, and yanks nearly ALL my necklaces off my neck. This results in many broken necklaces, and a sad Ryan. So when making jewelry for myself i thought of a way to make it that a child can tug on it countless times and it would not break. Its been working well so far!!! If the elastic turns out to be of lesser quality than other string, i will let you know. till then, i hope you understand the need for mommys to keep their necklaces babyfriendly!
